The crisis intervention nonprofit offers free counseling and support to teens—all via text. Hoffman led the funding round, followed by Gates, The Ballmer Group, and Omidyar Network. The money will aid with hiring more counselors and developers and partnering with messaging platforms.
Crisis Text Line has a trove of valuable data, based on its interactions with teens and others who use the service—so it was an obvious next step for the company to partner with Facebook and bring Crisis Text Line to Messenger. As CEO Nancy Lublin wrote in a post yesterday:
So excited to announce (tomorrow) that we will be offering Crisis Text Line services via Fbook Messenger. For months, we've been re-working policies and building in the API. We're super excited to save lives together.
