Above Avalon analyst Neil Cybart says that despite a depressing wearables market report from IDC yesterday, the Apple Watch could sell close to 5 million units this holiday season, making it the best quarter yet for the device. But the silver lining has a dark cloud. Many of the Watch sales this season might be of the first version of the Apple Watch, not the new Apple Watch Series 2. Cybart:
"My confidence level is quite high that Apple saw very strong Watch sales due to Target and Macy's selling Apple Watch Series 1 at $199. Even today, Target is handing out a $50 Target gift card with every Series 1 purchase. While there were big sales on Apple Watch Series 1, there weren't any sales on Apple Watch Series 2. This led to a pretty big price gap between the $199 and the $369 starting price for Series 1 and Series 2, respectively. Apple Watch Nike+ also sells for $369. In that scenario, my suspicion is that Series 1 outsold Series 2 by a healthy margin."
